Ralph's Ridiculous Adventure is a 2D action game, where the protagonist, Ralph, and his pet
snake, Mr. Slithers, travel across multiple worlds to try and save a village of people turned into cows.
The duo must fight devious animals, solve puzzles, and play football as they try to find the cure to the
bovine curse, culminating in a climactic boss fight with the true villain.
The player interacts with the game world by using the cursor to aim the snake where they would like to go,
then clicking to fire - they can defeat enemies by crashing into them, or get a football into a goal to distract
enemy pigs (which makes sense in context just trust me)
I, along with a few of my game development colleagues and others assigned by the production team, were
picked to make the game as part of a game jam organised by Channel 4's returning video game television
show, Gamesmaster.
I put the team together, and was responsible for programming a significant proportion of the core
systems and writing additional dialogue. We produced the game in 72 hours.
The game, and the credits, are available on
itch.io. Gameplay screenshots can be seen at the bottom of the page (click to zoom in).
What did I do?
I built the team structure and processes to facilitate efficient communication and delivery requirements
for our multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring we met milestone dates.
Designed and implemented prototypes and final versions of the core movement systems, dialogue UI/UX,
combat mechanics, and bespoke gameplay features in C# and Playmaker, including the pot memory game, the card-matching mini-puzzle, and the climactic encounter with the final boss.
Filmed and edited vlogs that we recorded along with the game itself to submit to the Channel 4
production team.
